Atheist billboards going up in Texas

Two atheist billboards will be going up in north Texas on Monday. One will be erected in Dallas on I-35 near loop 12. The other one will be in Fort Worth on I-35 near Braswell.

The billboards are going up by the efforts of Metroplex Atheists. In addition, the group will be launching a new Web site to coincide with the billboards going up.

The billboards have a blue background - sky, intermingled with white - clouds. The message will read "Don't believe in God? You are not alone." The have will have the new Web site address on them in the lower left hand corner. The address is www.dfwcor.org. That stands for Dallas Fort Worth Coalition of Reason.

According to a report, Terry McDonald of the Metroplex Atheists said, "We're not trying to attract people who believe in God. We're not trying to change their minds. It's to let those people who don't believe know that they're not alone and that there are a lot of groups that they can become involved in."

Dr. Darrell Bock of the Dallas Theological Seminary said that he thinks that people may be upset at first but that they would move passed those feelings. He said that "[p]eople pretty much have their minds made up on these kinds of matters. They're either going to be for or against. A lot of people will drive by and it will be the topic of conversation for a few days perhaps, but I don't think it's going to change very much."

  2. Well, actually, there was some Christian booksellers convention and at least one atheist was invited to speak. Several books were on sale as well. I should have sent you the article. Bad Sash!

  3. Or posted it on the blog as a form of rebuttal, if such a thing is even possible these days.
